What is biomechanics?

Biomechanics is the study of the mechanics of a living body, especially of the forces exerted by muscles and gravity on the skeletal structure. Podiatrists analyse how muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments work together to produce movement.
During your biomechanical assessment, your podiatrist will examine you sitting, standing and walking, checking the major joint complexes of the foot, ankle, knee and hip. They will look at your footwear and even your socks.

Visit our First For FootCare Clinic to find out why you suffer from back, hip, knee or foot pain by doing a biomechanical assessment. We are dedicated to offering specialist treatments for foot pain and sports injuries.

Biomechanics and sports podiatry may help with a variety of conditions including:

  • Foot pain
  • Ankle pain
  • Heel or plantar fascia pain
  • Lower leg or shin pain
  • Knee pain
  • Upper leg pain
  • Hip pain
  • Back pain
  • Sports injury
  • Calf or Achilles tendon pain
